The 2011 Trip
Part 115 – Superstition Mountain Museum

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

The temperature at 5:35AM was 51.3F under an overcast sky. At 8AM it was 55.9F under scattered cloud. Apparently the temperature and weather detail at the Gold Canyon weather station is upgraded every so often and not hourly as it was back in our day, forty years ago. The temperature at 9:45AM was 64.0F under a partly cloudy sky. A statement next to it said that this report had been upgraded 3 minutes 35 seconds ago. An hourly report would be rather slow for this fast way of living today. They seem to think they need sudden service today.

Joan and I spent the morning at Superstition Mountain Museum and of course we forgot to take the cameras. We will have to go back and get some photographs. It is a wonderful little museum. The site was the home of a lot of old western movies. Elvis Presley made one there and they now have the church dedicated to him. Bonanza, Wagon Train, The Rifleman, and many of those shows were filmed there. I reckon that is the reason someone asked Hoss Cartwright if he was on the road to Tortilla Flats in one of the Bonanza episodes. Tortilla Flats is just down the road from there.

This is their web site if you would like to take a look: http://www.superstitionmountainmuseum.org/

They have a working Blacksmith Shop with a smithy making ornamental ironwork for sale. He would take orders for anything. My father and grandfather were Blacksmiths and that made this very interesting. We will have to get some photographs and put them on here.

From the museum we went to Apache Junction RV and bought some cleaner in order to clean the trailer awnings. They are getting a bit too dirty. From the RV store we went to Wal-Mart and created a little more inflation there.

When we arrived home at 1:30PM the Gold Canyon weather station stated it was 71.5F and felt like 76F. It was nice in the sunshine. The sky was clear. We sat outside most of the afternoon. The temperature at 4:25PM was 73.0F with a partly cloudy sky and the statement it felt like 75F. It was nice although the breeze was cool. Bob and Liam were in for a minute and then Karen was over.

By 5:15PM the temperature was 70.6F with a partly cloudy sky.

Joan went for a swim but it was too cool for me. Karen, Joan and Van were the only ones brave enough.

After the evening movie the temperature was 55.8F under a clear sky and another good day ended with the movie.
